At the UCF Upstate Teaching Garden, every seed planted is a promise: a promise of nourishment, education, and a more sustainable future. Our garden is more than just rows of vegetables and herbs. It’s a living classroom, a gathering space, and a catalyst for community resilience.
Growing Together, Rooted in Purpose
Sustainability begins at the ground level—literally and figuratively. Through workshops, youth programs, and hands-on volunteer days, the Teaching Garden empowers people of all ages to reconnect with the land and reclaim the knowledge of growing food. We teach soil health, composting, organic practices, and seasonal planting. At the same time, we address food insecurity right here in our own backyard.
What begins in the garden extends far beyond it. Harvests are shared with local families, used in cooking and nutrition classes, and spark inspiration for others to grow their own food at home. We believe sustainability isn’t just about the environment. It’s social. It’s economic. It’s deeply personal.
Why It Matters
Communities that grow their own food grow their own power. In a time when access to fresh, affordable produce is unequal, gardens like ours are more than helpful—they’re essential. Our goal is to build a food system that is local, equitable, and regenerative. Every weed pulled and every seed sown moves us closer to that vision.
Get Involved
Whether you’re a first-time gardener or a seasoned grower, there’s a place for you here. Volunteer with us. Attend a workshop. Sponsor a garden bed. Or simply come by to explore and connect. Your hands, your heart, and your time can help shape the next generation of sustainable stewards.
Together, we’re not just growing food. We’re growing hope. We’re growing knowledge. And most importantly, we’re growing a thriving community.
Let’s keep planting. Let’s keep growing. Let’s keep teaching.
